Grumpy Play Pedagogy : More Playful Playtimes Grumpy has a well-established
history of supporting schools in developing creative opportunities for play through supplying materials,
training and running play sessions. Following more recent work in Salford and Manchester, we have
developed a comprehensive
programme to support schools in enhancing playtimes.
Grumpy Play Pedagogy : More Playful Playtimes programme is designed to offer advice, guidance and expertise over a period of time to enable schools to make a series of interventions and improvements to playtime across the whole school (policies, procedures and practices). The emphasis is on sustainable low-cost approaches, small things that may have big impact.
The programme is designed to develop a whole school approach to enhancing playtime. It is not a programme in which people from outside the school come in and run activities, but rather the emphasis is on building the capacity and capability of the school to support more playful playtimes. It does this by providing on-going support from an experienced Grumpy Project Development Worker over a 12-month period to support the school in developing its approach. This will involve 10 days of development time designed to work across the three themes outlined above. Thus, it will enable the school to develop: • a sustainable approach to improving playtimes by working with key personnel to develop understanding of the nature of play and how this is translated into school policies and procedures • working with playground supervisors to enhance their ability to support children’s play • observing children’s use of the playground and looking at ways to extend playing by making interventions in the design of the space (particularly through the introduction of ‘loose parts’) ............................................................................................ ★ NEW ★ Play Trainers and Play Workers Needed! Following the successful pilot of our Play in Schools programme, Grumpy is now looking to build on this by extending this into Grumpy Play Pedagogy : More Playful Playtimes in schools and community support team. We need experienced and preferably Level 3 qualified play trainers and play workers to join our database with the opportunity to be involved in future delivery of this program. ............................................................................................ Following an extremely successful pilot programme Grumpy Play Pedagogy : More Playful Playtimes, Grumpy are pleased to release our report findings: © The contents of this document are subject to copyright.
